Grant Fritchey
Query Performance Tuning in SQL Server

Sometimes, just buying bigger and better hardware isn’t possible and you still have problems with database performance you have to deal with. Now what do you do? Since about 80% of the time, the problem lies in the T-SQL code, you could try tuning your queries. This all day session takes you through everything you need in order to tune your queries. We’ll start with establishing an understanding of how the optimizer works, move through methods for capturing query performance metrics and then step through methods of fixing common problems. We’ll take advantage of the tools offered by Microsoft such as the Dynamic Management Objects, Query Execution Plans and Extended Events. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how to identify and fix poorly performing queries that you can apply immediately on your own systems.

Grant Fritchey is a SQL Server MVP with over 20 years experience in IT including time spent in support and development. Grant has worked with SQL Server since version 6.0 back in 1995. He has developed in VB, VB.Net, C# and Java. He has authored books for Apress and Simple-Talk, and joined Red Gate as a Product Evangelist in January 2011

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  The Hilton Garden Inn is located at 1389 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12206.  This is directly across the street from the campus of SUNY Albany, where the SQL Saturday will be held.
