Session 1: Introducing Organizational BI with SSAS 2014 Tabular – Bill Pearson
SQL Server MVP and Business Intelligence Architect Bill Pearson leads this hands-on introduction to using SQL Server Analysis Services 2014 Tabular (“SSAS Tabular”) to deliver corporate-level business intelligence solutions. The focus of the course is to help those new to SSAS Tabular to assemble data from diverse sources, and to then build and query a basic Tabular model. Participants will gain introductory hands-on exposure to accessing and relating data, and to employing the Data Analysis eXpressions (DAX) language, to construct SSAS Tabular models that support rapid analysis and reporting throughout the enterprise.
Session 2: Power BI Hands-on Workshop – Paul Turley
This engaging workshop will teach attendees how to use Power BI Desktop to create a complete solution delivering dashboards, self-service and mobile BI. Attendees will learn to analyze information using impactful and interactive visualizations. We will create a solution using a variety of data sources that can be used on the desktop by Data Analysts or for group collaboration in the Power BI secure cloud service.
Session 3: Real World SQL Server High Availability Masterclass – Mark Broadbent
In this pre-conference session we shall explain how to design, plan, implement and maintain SQL Server Availability solutions laying not only the conceptual foundations for your learning, but the practical technical hands on know-how for Database (and Windows) administrators and Technical Architects.

Session 4: T-SQL for Performance and Accuracy – Vern Rabe
This preconference will teach you how to write T-SQL with two goals in mind: Getting the results you expect (accuracy), and quickly (performance). In this preconference we will start with some SQL Server internals, where you will learn how the optimizer determines the execution plan, which join algorithms should be used in which situations, and some of the right and wrong choices that the optimizer can make. We’ll discuss how statistics are key to the optimizer’s choices, how the plan cache is used (for good or bad), how to minimize blocking, and how the ubiquitous transaction log is a performance factor is just about everything.
Session 5: Building an end to end modern data architecture with Cortana Analytics – Josh Sivey and Microsoft Data Team
Cortana Analytics suite is a fully managed big data and advanced analytics suite that enables you to transform data into intelligent action. Join the local Microsoft data team as they build out an end to end solution leveraging an IoT device streaming data into Microsoft Azure through hubs into real time analytic repositories as well as a data lake to illustrate the benefits of a lambda architecture in the cloud. We will also create machine learning experiments to make predictions on the data and create rich, interactive visualizations to surface the data to end users.
