What is SQLSaturday?
It's a free one day learning event for SQL Server professionals, loosely patterned on the well known Code Camp model, organized by the Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group (JSSUG) and supported by End to End Training of Orlando and the University of North Florida. You can download the event flyer from here.
When and where will it be held?
SQLSaturday Jacksonville will be held May 3, 2008 at The University of North Florida Campus, Building 50, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224 (if using Google please use "Building 50, 4567 St. Johns Bluff Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32224" as the address). Event check in will begin at 8 am, sessions begin at 9 am, and we expect to wrap up the event between 4:30 & 5:00 pm. Our thanks to Sherif Elfayoumy, Associate Professor of the School of Computing, for his efforts in making the facility available to us for the event. Special note: there is a $3 parking charge at the college, please bring cash to pay for parking.
When will the schedule of sessions be posted?
Our call for speakers is now open and it will take a few weeks before we finalize the schedule. We're expecting to have 30-40 different sessions by 20-30 different speakers. You can see what has been submitted so far and make your own suggestions on our session page.
Who will be speaking?
We can tell you that we expect to have SQL Server experts Andy Warren, Brian Knight, Chris Rock, Joe Healy, Pam Shaw, Wes Dumey, Michael Wells, and we hope that you will consider joining that list. We're looking for as wide a variety of speakers and topics as possible, ranging from beginner to expert, SSIS to tuning to warehousing, and from novice speaker to seasoned presenter. We definitely like to get as many local speakers on the schedule as we can - all you need is some knowledge, a lot of passion, and a willingness to give it a try. Not sure about a topic? Take a look at our session page. Need some help getting started with speaking? End to End Training offers a free speaking class in Orlando on March 7th! When you're ready to submit visit our call for speakers page and we'll follow up with you within a couple days.
Can I sponsor this event?
We do need sponsors to help subsidize the incidental costs of running the event and this is a great event to meet SQL Server professionals or to just give back to the community. If you are interested or want more information, please visit our sponsor page. You can view all our great sponsors here and we hope that most of them will be at the event.
What else can you tell me about the event?
- This event is free to anyone that wishes to attend
- Check in for the event opens at 8 am
- We'll have coffee and doughnuts for breakfast
- Sessions begin at 9 am - no keynote!
- We'll be raffling off prizes throughout the day and we'll save a few special ones for the end of the day
- We'll have a post event party - location to be announced - if you want to continue the talk after the sessions finish and maybe spend more time with our great speakers.
Will there be a 'pre-event' seminar similar to the one held in Orlando/Tampa?
Absolutely! Following in the footsteps of the Orlando and Tampa events we have a one day seminar on Performance Tuning by Andy Warren of End to End Training. The one day seminar will be $99 and that includes lunch. The seminar will focus on the things that a beginning DBA or a developer that does data access needs to know to help get the best performance from SQL Server. Our goal is that you go home with some useful knowledge that you apply immediately. Seminar will be held at the Embassy Suites Jacksonville (link below).

Call the hotel directly to register and ask for the event rate of $89/night (includes internet access), it will be under Pragmatic Works, or if you register online use group code PGW.
