SQLSaturday Sacramento 2016 (SQLSaturday #540) is a free event hosted by the Sacramento SQL Server User Group.  The event will feature over 30 one-hour technical sessions presented in five concurrent tracks over seven time slots on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Sacramento.

Microsoft SQL Server Professionals specializing in Business Intelligence, Database Development, Database Administration and more, will find sessions which address the Database Engine, Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS) as well as other product areas.  Additionally, expect to find general Professional Development sessions.  Last year, our speaker lineup included numerous local speakers, two Microsoft Certified Masters of SQL Server and seven SQL Server MVPs; we're expecting another fantastic speaker lineup this year.

The event is also a great opportunity to talk with representatives from our sponsors which offer products and services in a variety of categories.   Whether you choose our convenient catered box lunch for $8 or provide your own lunch, you won't want to miss the informative lunch-time product sessions while you eat.  When the technical sessions have concluded for the day, we will meet outside on the front steps of the venue to select winners of the many raffle prizes which will be available.  We hope you'll choose to join us for some free coffee, donuts, a diverse training schedule and a unique networking opportunity.

Pre-Conference Seminars

We are pleased to offer two pre-conference seminars on Friday, July 22, 2016.  Choose either Kalen Delaney's "SQL Server Query Plans -- Reuse or Recompile?" or join Angel Abundez and Eric Bragas for "Power BI Kick Start".  Each pre-con is a full day of training available for purchase via the Eventbrite links below.

Pre-Con 1:
Kalen Delaney
SQL Server Query Plans -- Reuse or Recompile?

Pre-Con 1 When:
Friday, July 22, 2016, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Pre-Con 1 Where:
Patrick Hays Learning Center
2700 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 2600
Sacramento, CA 95833

Pre-Con 1 What:
What determines when a plan is reused?  When is it better to recompile?  Reusing an inappropriate plan cause a huge reduction in query response time.  On the other hand, recompiling a frequently run query every time it's executed can also cause big performance problems.

In this seminar, we'll discuss how SQL Server decides to recompile or reuse an existing plan, and how you can tell if that's a good choice.  We'll also look at how you can 'encourage' SQL Server to do what you want it to do.

The seminar includes extensive demonstrations that illustrate the details of SQL Server plan caching and recompilation, as well as the internals of the plan cache and the metadata available for examining its contents.

This seminar will be presented on SQL Server 2014 and cover features specific to that version, but most of the information is relevant to SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2008 as well.

Join Angel Abundez and Eric Bragas of DesignMind as we guide you through building a full Power BI implementation.  We'll begin with the end in mind by first working with an existing Power BI model to explore the various visualizations get familiar with analyzing data using a well-built model.  Then, we'll develop our own workbook from a variety of data sources using the functionality of Power BI Queries and DAX measures in your Data Model.  So bring your laptop, grab a cup of coffee, and get ready to learn.
