Welcome to SQL Saturday in Albany, NY: July 29, 2017

SQL Saturday is a training event for SQL Server professionals and those wanting to learn about SQL Server and related technologies.  This is our 4th SQL Saturday in Albany, and will take place on the beautiful campus at the University of Albany.  The event is free, plus a $10 fee for those who will enjoy breakfast and lunch with us.  Please register soon as seating is limited, and let your friends and colleagues know about the great time to be had at our event!

Getting There

The street address for UAlbany is 1400 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12222.  The following is a map indicating the location of the campus and is centered on the State Purple parking lot.  Signs will direct you from there to the lecture centers & fountain area, where all events will be taking place.

All events will be held in the Lecture Centers, which are located at the center of campus encircling the large tower & fountain.  A Google map of SUNY Albany's campus can be found here, as well as a printable PDF version, as well.

The State Purple lot is the closest and most convenient place to park on campus, with easy access to the center of campus.  All lots allow for free parking on the weekend, so you may park elsewhere, if desired.  We will be using Lecture Centers (LCs) 20 - 25 for all sessions, and the concourse area outside of them for sponsors & registration.

The Hilton Garden Inn @ SUNY Albany has reserved a block of rooms for attendees at the discounted rate of $139/night. The hotel is located at:

Fabiano loves to conquer complex, challenging problems—especially the ones that others aren’t able to solve. He first became interested in technology when his older brother would bring him to his work meetings at the age of 14.

With over a decade of experience, Fabiano is well known in the database community for his performance tuning abilities. When he isn’t working, he loves to read and spend time with his wife and son. He also is a data platform MVP and actively involved in SQL Server community though forums, writes articles for Simple-Talk (https://www.simple-talk.com/author/fabiano-amorim/), and he also presents online Webcasts and In-Person events around world (Brazil , Portugal, UK, Japan, Canada, India, Denmark, Belgium, Israel, Johannesburg…), he already spoke to more than 15 SQLSaturday events.

This full day training conference aims to empower the SQL Server professional with the ability to analyze execution plans, focusing on T-SQL query optimization, by understanding how the execution plan works, how it is created and how to influence the plan as a skeleton key to optimizing T-SQL code.

After presenting the Query Optimizer, we will explore how the execution plans are executed, analyzing the characteristics of key operators, with emphasis on performance.

Steve Simon is a Data Platform MVP and a senior BI Development Engineer with Atrion Networking. He has been involved with database design and analysis for over 31 years. Steve has presented papers at eight PASS Summits and one at PASS Europe 2009 and 2010. He is also regular presenter on the SQL Saturday circuit and he is a regular contributor on SQLShack.com.
