Description: The DAX language is the foundation of self-service Business Intelligence using the Microsoft stack. It is the language used to query and program Power BI, PowerPivot for Microsoft Excel, and SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular models. Learning the basics of DAX is very simple, but mastering it is a different story because it requires a mindset that needs some study, for both BI Professionals and Information Workers.
During this one-day workshop, the author of the bestseller books The Definitive Guide to DAX, The Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services: The BISM Tabular Model, and Building Data Models with Power Pivot, will guide you in the process of learning the DAX language, through many examples and scenarios that will help you understand the important concepts of DAX and how to leverage them in the everyday work.
The workshop is useful to many profiles: Information Workers interested in exploiting the many interesting features of PowerPivot for Excel and BI developers who want to learn the DAX language.
About the speaker: Marco is a business intelligence consultant and mentor. He first started working on Analysis Services in 1998, back when Analysis Services was known as OLAP Services. A veteran of end-to-end projects, Marco wrote several books with Alberto Ferrari about Power BI, Analysis Service, and Power Pivot. They also regularly write articles and white papers that are available on sqlbi.com. Marco is a Microsoft MVP and an SSAS Maestro, the highest level of certification on Microsoft Analysis Services. Today, Marco focuses his time with SQLBI customers, traveling extensively to train and consult on DAX and data modeling for Power BI and Analysis Services. Marco also teaches public classes worldwide. Marco is a regular speaker at international conferences like Microsoft Ignite, PASS Summit, and Sqlbits. He also enjoys delivering evening sessions at local user groups during his trips.

Adam Saxton (@GuyInACube)
Adam Saxton is just a guy in a cube doing the work! He is on the Power BI team, at Microsoft, working on documentation for Power BI and Reporting Services. He is based in Texas, and started with Microsoft supporting SQL Server connectivity and Reporting Services in 2005. Adam has worked with Power BI since the beginning, on the support side, and now helps to produce content for these products. In addition to documentation, he produces weekly videos for his Guy in a Cube YouTube channel.
Patrick Leblanc (@patrickdba)
Patrick LeBlanc is a currently a Data Platform Solutions Architect at Microsoft and a contributing partner to Guy in a Cube. Along with his 15+ years’ experience in IT he holds a Masters of Science degree from Louisiana State University. He is the author and co-author of five SQL Server books. Prior to joining Microsoft he was awarded Microsoft MVP award for his contributions to the community. Patrick is a regular speaker at many SQL Server Conferences and Community events.
