SQL Server Tools for Query Performance Tuning with Grant Fritchey

Query tuning within SQL Server can be a tough skill to master. The new tooling released with SQL Server 2016 and 2017 changes how you identify poorly performing queries, troubleshoot their behavior and tune the queries. In fact, the new tools make everything a little easier. This workshop teaches new techniques for tuning queries using all these new tools as well as a couple of old ones that maybe you needed to know better. How do you know which query to focus on? How do you understand what's wrong with that query? We'll answer these questions and more over the day. You'll be able to put this knowledge to work immediately, not only in your 2016 or better instances but also in your Azure SQL Database databases and even in some of the older versions of SQL Server. We'll cover the query store, extended events, and execution plans as well as several other tools. You will be tuning your queries faster and more accurately using the SQL Server tools that you have available right now.

Grant Fritchey is a Data Platform MVP with over 20 years’ experience in IT, including time spent in support and development. He has worked with SQL Server since 6.0 back in 1995. He has also developed in VB, VB.NET, C#, and Java. Grant has written books for Apress and Simple-Talk. Grant presents at conferences and user groups, large and small, all over the world. He joined Redgate Software as a product evangelist in January 2011.
