With increased focus on data breaches, security issues and privacy laws, organizations are feeling greater pressure to provide sufficient data protection. GDPR brings substantial fines and potentially criminal prosecution. Are you ready? Are your database systems ready?

During this full day Precon, we will review a variety of ways to secure your SQL Server databases and data from attack. In this session we will review proper network designs, recommended firewall configurations, and physical security options. We will also review data encryption options, password protection options, using contained databases, and Always On Availability Groups security. There will also be discussions about additional measures which should be taken when working with Internet-facing applications.

From there we will move to the most common attack vector: SQL Injection. We will include all the ways that attackers can use SQL Injection to get into your system and how to protect against it. The security options for database backups is the next topic on the list followed by proper SAN security designs. We will then finish up by reviewing the auditing options which are available against a database and how they can be used to monitor everything else which we've just talked about during the day.

Data Science is currently the hottest topic among data analysts and technologists, but getting started can sometimes be daunting or confusing to many data professionals. We aim to change that with this full-day, hands-on course in which you will be introduced to data science and its basic methodologies using the Python programming language!

Together we will work through some real-world data analyses using several of the most popular Python libraries, such as NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib, and SciPy. Next, we'll cover collecting and importing data, and introduce basic statistics around our data. From there we'll move on to create some simple visualizations of our data to help us identify trends and patterns, and then finish up by putting our newfound Python skills to the test by tackling a detailed real-world scenario.

Intended Audience:

• DBAs and Database Developers looking to branch out into the wider world of data science.

• Data Analysts who want an introduction to the features and methods available in the Python data science toolset.

• Anyone who is looking for a fun, hands-on way to get started in the data science field.

Ben Weissman Presents SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters in a Day

With SQL Server 2019, Microsoft introduced a game changer for Big Data and Analytics Workloads: Big Data Clusters

This feature set combines solutions for Data Virtualization, Data Mart Scale Out using traditional SQL Server tables, non relational and file based data as well as Machine Learning and AI.

In this session we are going to explore the capabilities of the exciting new feature. Ben Weissman will walk you through the different aspects and use cases of Big Data Clusters, demo them and eventually show you how to deploy and push data to your own Big Data Cluster so you can start using them right away!

Note: We will run the deployment using Azure Resources. If you want to keep your lab, your own Azure Subscription will be required, otherwise we will provide you an environment. We will reach out about 4 weeks before the event with the exact requirements.

** Remember that if you register for a pre-con it does NOT automatically register you for SQL Saturday. Don't forget to register for our free day of training on Saturday as well!
