Welcome to SQL Saturday in Albany, NY: July 25, 2020
SQL Saturday is a training event for database professionals and those wanting to learn about SQL Server and related technologies. SQL Saturday Albany will take place on the beautiful campus at the University of Albany. The event is free, plus a $15 fee for those who will enjoy a delicious breakfast and lunch with us. Vegetarian options are available for all meals. This is our 7th year of SQL Saturday in Albany!

The street address for UAlbany is 1400 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12222. The following is a map indicating the location of the campus and is centered on the State Purple parking lot. Signs will direct you from there to the lecture centers & fountain area, where all events will be taking place.

All events will be held in the Lecture Centers, which are located at the center of campus encircling the large tower & fountain. A Google map of SUNY Albany's campus can be found here, as well as a printable PDF version, as well.

The State Purple lot is the closest and most convenient place to park on campus, with easy access to the center of campus. All lots allow for free parking on the weekend, so you may park elsewhere, if desired. We will be using Lecture Centers (LCs) 20 - 25 for all sessions, and the concourse area outside of them for sponsors & registration.

The following full-day training session will be offered on Friday, July 24th at the Hilton Garden Inn at UAlbany. These events run from 8am to 5pm and includes breakfast and lunch. Azure Databricks Jump Start
Bryan Cafferky is a Big Data and AI Consultant and Microsoft certified Azure Data Scientist with decades of experience in multiple industries. Previously, Bryan developed online, and instructor-led Data Science training content for Microsoft Worldwide Learning. Bryan provides technical training videos on his popular YouTube channel. He was a Microsoft Technical Solutions Professional focused on helping customers understand and implement Big Data and AI solutions in the health care industry. Apache Spark and Databricks are his passion.
He is a Microsoft 2017 Data Platform MVP and a 2016 Cloud and Data Center Management MVP. Bryan is the author of ‘Pro PowerShell for Database Developers’ by Apress, available on Amazon. He leads The RI Microsoft BI User Group, and The Greater Boston Area Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI Group. He has been working with the SQL Server stack since 1997 and implemented projects in the banking, insurance, e-commerce, utility, and health care industries. He holds a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems and a Master’s in Business Administration.

In this workshop, you'll learn what Azure Databricks is, its key features, and how to do data wrangling at scale with SQL, R, Python, and Scala. You will also learn about Databricks job scheduling, dashboards, and security. Since Databricks is built on Spark, you will learn how Spark works and how to leverage Databricks to get the most out it.
This is hands-on so bring your laptop and be prepared to be amazed! Since most attendees have some SQL background, we'll give particular attention to leveraging SQL on Databricks!
